How about the old conf files in /etc/asterisk directory? Are they erased/overwritten by the install commands including the make samples?

If the first Asterisk 1.8.6 is stored in /usr/src/asterisk/asterisk-1.8.6, do we overwrite the directory /usr/src/asterisk/asterisk-1.8.6 or create another one like /usr/src/asterisk/asterisk-1.8.7?
