GRUB and GRUB4DOS

因为要安装系统，经常的软件是电脑下载的ISO media，所以一枚USB thumb drive可以安装很多系统，但是怎样把它们启动呢？很就以前用LILO比较多，但是现在慢慢开始很多人都用GRUB（Unix），GRUB4DOS（DOS）。所以这个帖子集中讨论是怎样把这个软件，然后把我们的USB thumb drive成为我们的盘。

As I am working on installing Linux on Intel ATOM PC and if we create numbers of partitions, we have to manage how to make a particular partition active using GRUB software.

It is time to review those produces.

Finally, I am able make my USB thumb dirve bootable using Chinese developed software fbinst. You may find more information about this as follows:

The reaosn of my failure is due to the hardware design of my USB thumb drive. fbinst program plays a very clever way to adjust some of parameters in any USB thumb drives such that the general purpose USB driver is able to read the information.

Two requirements might be ignored:
1.  fat32 formatted USB stick.
2.  select boot from the USB device in BIOS.

I would like to know the brand name of your USB flash drive which does not give any problem. Mine is Kingston Data Traveller 8G.

Yup.  If we just want to learn different variants of Linux, we don't need to buy too many flash sticks any more.  A high speed with great capacity stick, such as 16GB, can surely accommodate all these variants inclusing OS, Resure, Application Softwares.  The latest relaease I've just found is that we can even install Windows OS in this Multiple Boot Pen Drive.  The installation is quite straight, just a piece of cake.

I have tried creating a rescue usb-stick using Grub4DOS to put Acronis True Image as per your introduced method.  It works like a charm.

For everybody's information, we can also create similar USB-Stick for many other Linux variants with the following.  I've also did it b4 and succeeded.   Take your time.

我跟這方法做我的 rescue usb-stick.

其實，仲有很多唔同的方法，如bootable CD for Windows。以前玩咗唔少時間，可以將Windows boot 起，救NTFS partition等。
